[Abk. für Link Access Procedure Balanced, dt. »ausgewogene Verbindungs- und Zugangsprozedur«], Variante der LAP-Protokollfamilie zur bitsynchronen Datenübertragung in der Sicherungsschicht (OSI-Schichtenmodell). Dabei sind die kooperierenden Stationen (LAP-Instanzen) gleichberechtigt (»balanced«) hinsichtlich ihrer Kommandobefugnisse. Jede Station organisiert selbstständig ihre temporären Übertragungen und steuert sie als Leitstation (Primärstation) mit Befehlen an die empfangende Folgestation (Sekundärstation), die den Befehlen folgen muss und mit Meldungen berichtet. Jede Station kann, abhängig vom Übertragungszustand, entweder als Leitstation oder Folgestation auftreten.
 
LAPB ist implementiert in X.25-Weitverkehrsnetzen (z. B. Datex-P der Deutschen Telekom).
